It’s a phrase I’ve heard all my life – I am my father’s daughter. Its taken me a long time to understand what that really means, but now that I get it, I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.

When I was little, it referred to the fact that I was a daddy’s girl. I was his princess, the apple of his eye. He was the “fun” parent – my mom was the disciplinarian. He introduced me to music. One of my very favorite memories is waking up early on Saturday mornings in the summer. That was special time, just for me and my dad. He would make breakfast (cereal – Dad didn’t cook), we would turn the stereo all the way up, open the doorwall, and eat on the patio. It was always the same song – Natalie Cole’s Pink Cadillac. It annoyed my mom and brother, who wanted to sleep in, but I loved it. After we ate, Dad and I would run around the yard, playing, having dance parties, swinging on the swings. Those mornings made me feel like I was the most important person in the world – I had my Dad’s attention all to myself.
